Knott Rigg and Ard Crags

  • Distance: 5.8 miles
  • Difficulty: Medium

The car park at Newlands Hause provides a ‘leg up’ on this walk. Knott Rigg stands at around 1825 feet high and is located on a four-kilometre-long stretch of ridge in the Newlands Valley.

The climb begins from the off and the path up the mountain can clearly be seen throughout. After reaching the summit of Knott Riggs astounding views of the Newlands Valley are visible beneath. From the summit, continue along the ridge to Ard Crags, following a path that descends down towards Sail Fell and from there to Sail Beck.

The final hurdle is to cross Sail beck and unfortunately, there is no bridge. Follow the path and slight climb back to Newlands Hause.
