Wow, what an achievement! On the 6th November, the Hazel Bank team were honoured to spend an evening at a prestigious Condé Nast Johansens / Taittinger international hospitality awards ceremony in Mayfair, London.
Not only did this event happen to be the highly respected Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence 2018, but on behalf of the Hazel Bank team, I am delighted to tell you, that having been shortlisted as finalists, we won the award for “Best Small and Exclusive Property”. As the premier reference guide for independent travellers, Condé Nast Johansens have a readership of 5.8 million- so we have huge hopes that our achievement will follow with increases in tourism and reap benefits for the whole of Cumbria.
The wonderful judges were impressed with Hazel Bank’s unique location and breathtaking scenery, whilst also inspired by how Hazel Bank had been immortalised in Sir Hugh Walpole’s Herries Chronicles, as the protagonist’s idyllic Lake District home. The awards winners were chosen by online voting, feedback from guests and local expert reports- so it goes without saying that we could not have achieved this spectacular accolade without you, our magnificent guests and supporters. In addition to this we were also awarded runner-up to Chewton Glen Country House in the “most innovative wine list of the year” category. This award was presented by Taittinger Champagne UK .
Then, to add to what had already been an incredibly successful year, myself, Donna and the team were surprised with the announcement that we had also won a coveted Good Hotel Guide, Editor’s Choice Award. Winning the award for, “Editor’s Choice- Walking Hotel of the Year 2018”, whilst Donna and I unfortunately could not make it to the awards in person, due to the terrible disruption caused by Hurricane Ophelia- we couldn’t be more grateful for being chosen to receive this honour.
Beating off the best competition from the whole of the UK & Ireland, Donna and I are therefore incredibly proud to be firmly cementing Borrowdale, our beloved corner of The Lake District, as #theplacetobe, on the international tourism map!
I would therefore like to say a huge thank you and congratulations to my tremendously hard-working team, but an even bigger thank you to my guests, because as we always like to say, “it’s the lovely guests that make us”.
