Newlands Valley

  • Distance: 8.5 miles
  • Difficulty: Medium

This is quite a long walk and falls into a figure of eight so it can easily be split into two.

Park at the village of Braithwaite and continue on foot, leaving the village behind. A path follows the lower slopes of the smaller fell, Barrow, which then leads onto the valley road. Leave the road after a short while and follow the path onto Stair.

The views in the valley are some of the most magnificent in the Lake District. Continue until you reach the head of the valley. The route back takes you next to Catbells, with Newlands Beck running alongside. Which returns back to the scenic and peaceful little village of Braithwaite.

Newlands Valley is often referred to as one of the nicest and most scenic valleys in the Lake District.
